Why It’s time for WWE to drop the 2k name or go back to The Smackdown vs Raw Series.

Spoiler alert !! For anyone wrestling fan/Gamer that has been living under a rock for the past few months, WWE 2K20 is a really bad and broken game. From ship it was a broken mess, with crazy out of place CAC parts and it was even missing one of the key fan favorite features Create a Championship. While yes it was later uploaded in a patch, even that has come with its issues. The base color of the reliefs make them almost unusable. Not to mention every time I personally tried to create and use my own wrestling promotion or show as an indie promotion or show in universe mode my game would crash, I play on Xbox so if it crashes on that.. It makes me harken back to the good old times of the Smackdown vs Raw series that was later replaced by the 2K series. Here is my top Five Reasons for why they should go back to the Smackdown vs Raw Series over a WWE 2K21 or drop the 2K name entirely.

Brand Warfare!

The state of wwe currently is back on par with the old brand warfare of old when it was smack down and raw fighting each other in the ratings and now throwing NXT in the mix it adds to the appeal of a brand vs brand vs brand style game , like when we have SD v R with ECW. Having the option to choose your brand and fight for what championships you want whether its a singles, tag or world title.

The wheel doesn’t change that much.

Going back to when WWE switched over to the 2k Branded game it seems like until 2k20 it feels like most of the games have had little to no changes with the exception of added and taking away superstars or changing the superstars to match their look and new entrances and granting titles to current champions at the time of the games release. A few UI changes other then that they all feel the same with the controls not changing to much if at all. While it took a few years for them to bring create a championship back into the series, which is one of the fan favorites due to the fact that you can even create rival promotions in the universe mode. Even that hasn’t really changed from game to game.

The My Career Mode

So about the my career mode. Back when it was SD vs Raw you would choose what brand you wanted to be on. At the time it was Raw, Smackdown and ECW. And you would choose what title you wanted to battle for , World , Singles and Tag Team titles. To which with a New SD vs Raw it would be NXT instead of ECW and with the addition of a Women’s Tag team titles, there is just as much options to do a women’s version of my career mode as well. This made it possible to have any wrestling character possible with no liner story to follow you could choose what and how you wanted to be. You choose your own back story and choose wither you were a face or a heel ( good guy or Bad guy). However with the latest installments in the 2k series you where forced with a story and objectives that maybe didn’t fit the type of wrestling character you wanted to be. Which made it a lackluster experience for those wanting to progress through a my career with multiple championship choices and brand options.

# 2 AEW’s success

With WWE’s now top competitor on the rise and even beating out the fan favorite of NXT in the ratings the first Night on television, and with the rumor mill spreading all around that Yuke’s who ran the Smackdown Vs Raw series and all WWE 2k’s until 2K20, is also rumored to working on a wrestling video game that is not related to WWE at all. This is bad news for WWE as this could mean AEW could swoop in and take a contract with Yukes to work exclusively with them. TNT has also granted AEW a Second branded show, which means they could make a same style game as the SD v R series but under the AEW Brands. If that where to happen that could spell bad things for WWE in both video games and their television products.

The Failure of WWE 2K20

Listen I know your thinking of course this is the number one reason why WWE should move away from the 2K series. You, me and all of us are right to say so. With Sony even giving refunds for downloads, which companies like that clearly do not do and with Yukes no longer being apart of the process and all of the bugs that came with this game at launch, it’s very hard not to put it at number one. With probably some of the most expensive marketing from any WWE game and with trying to include a Women’s my career option. The fan backlash of this game had tarnished any future WWE 2k games for years to come. While the new team tried hard to get the game out on date, the bugs and problems were too many to count. It’s unforunate that in order to play a recent WWE game you have to go back to play WWE 2K19.

While I hope that WWE does decide to go in a different direction with its massively popular games, I seriously doubt they will drop the 2K series and go back to SD v R, but like they have shown wrestling fans over these past few years they will keep shoving a bad product in our faces cause we continue to buy it or watch it.

Hands on with COD Mobile

So if your a call of duty fan like myself then you may have played at least a little bit of call of duty for mobile. I tried my hands at this on the iPhone and I have to say it’s a fun way to pass time when I’m sitting around. While it does not give you the same rush as playing multiplayer on console but it’s a nice time waster as far as mobile games go. I played through the tutorial and the controls while have kinda a auto aim feature are pretty basic and sometimes hard for me to handle as someone who normally plays an Xbox console. So I would give this game as far as a mobile game goes a 7/10.
